Monday’s impromptu holiday is forcing the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission to make some changes to their schedule.
Hearings that were set to take place in Chilliwack and Hope on Monday have been rescheduled to September 29th.
Those hearings will come one day after the virtual hearing at 2:00 on the 28th, which will be the only remaining opportunity for many in the north to join in.
One hearing had been held in Prince George in June, with no other consultations scheduled in the north as Ottawa looks to shake up the current boundaries.
Under the current proposal, two of the north’s three federal ridings would be altered as the commission seeks an ideal population of 116,300 per riding.
Despite being under that, no changes are proposed for the Skeena-Bulkley Valley District, as it is already the largest by area in the province.
But the Cariboo-Prince George riding would be altered to include the north-central part of the Kamloops-Thompson district, and would relinquish all area in the City of Prince George to the Prince George-Peace River riding.
Residents have until October 3rd to send submissions.
Written submissions can be e-mailed to: BC-CB@redecoupage-federal-
