An address from Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller opened day 2 of the BC Assembly of First Nations Annual General Meeting today.
Miller delivered his speech over Zoom, following an opening blessing and a blanketting ceremony to honour out-going board members.
Village of Gitwinksihlkw Chief Councillor Elaine Moore, Charles Morven of the Nisga’a Lisims Government, and We Wai Kai Nation member Brian Assu were all honoured.
Today’s agenda includes a resolution to undertake a collaborative review of First Nations health governance.
A second resolution calls for the BCAFN to seek intervener status in a Supreme Court Case regarding new legislation for First Nations child and family services.
Panels will also be held regarding climate change, wildfires, housing, and more.
