Update:
A rally which had been planned by the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs for Victoria tomorrow has been postponed, due to a community death.
They had intended to hold the rally at the Legislature Building as they continue their fight to have the Coastal GasLink pipeline cancelled.
A replacement date for the rally is still being determined.
Original Story:
A rally is being held in Victoria tomorrow as the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs continue their fight to have the Coastal GasLink pipeline cancelled.
Despite CGL signing agreements with all 20 elected band councils along the 670 km route, the Hereditary Chiefs say jurisdiction over the non-reserve lands lies solely with them.
Now, they are inviting supporters to attend a rally at the Legislature Building tomorrow at 3:00 in the afternoon, afterwhich they will host a press conference.
They are also urging supporters to call the Royal Bank of Canada to voice opposition to the project, in the hopes of having funding pulled.
Last week, CGL begin installing equipment to drill under the Wedzin Kwa, or Morice River, as the project inches closer to completion.
According to their August update, the project is nearly 70 percent finished, with 2 of 8 sections completely wrapped up.
Section 7, the one which crosses under the Wedzin Kwa, is the only section in which pipe installation has not yet begun.
In April, CGL partnered with 3 First Nations corporations to construct that section, including Yinka Dene Economic Development Limited Partnership of the Wet’suwet’en Nation.
