Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach’s proposed Bill to lower Canada’s legal voting age to 16 has been defeated.
Bill C-210 was defeated during its second reading in the House of Commons today, garnering 245 Nay votes, and 77 Yeas.
Bachrach tabled the private member’s bill in December, asserting that 16 and 17 year olds should have a say in the future of the country.
At the time, the MP said that climate concerns and soaring housing costs had young Canadians concerned about how today’s political decisions will impact the future.
However, Canada will not be joining the 13 democratic countries that have lowered their voting age below 18.
