In a recently put out news release, it was revealed that the University of Northern British Columbia’s Rotunda Art Gallery will now be known as the Robert Frederick Gallery.
The name change is meant to honor the late Robert Frederick, an accomplished Lheidli T’enneh carver, storyteller and educator.
Frederick began learning from his elders at a young age and with his memory that was said to be amazing, he was able to absorb his teachings and pass along the lessons he learned to younger generations.
Frederick was also an instructor and guest speaker at UNBC for First Nations Studies and English classes.
The Gallery itself is located on the first floor of the Teaching Laboratory and it’s managed by the UNBC Arts Council.
