Cultural restoration work is set to continue at one of Quesnel’s most prominent parks, with City Council applying for two new grants.
In June, the city announced Ceal Tingley Park would be changing its name to Lhtako Dene Park, in recognition of its cultural importance.
Work is already taking place at the park to install a new entrance sign, territorial signage, sculptures, and a pair of flagpoles to fly the Nation’s flag.
That work is being funded by Covid restart grants, but last week, the City applied for two more grants to fund further efforts.
If their applications are successful, they would fund the installation of interpretive signs, a cultural monument, a garden with native perennial species, and a pit house with benches and picnic tables.
A grant from Infrastructure Canada would provide up to $350,000, while one from the Northern Development Initiative Trust would provide up to $300,000.
