Northern Health is calling a fire which engulfed a mobile overdose prevention clinic in Fort St John this weekend a senseless act of destruction.
Fire crews were called out to a hotel parking lot at around 9:00 Sunday night for reports that a vehicle was on fire.
Said vehicle turned out to be a van containing a mobile clinic operated by both Northern Health and the First Nations’ Health Authority.
In service since February, the van had served as a safe consumption site, as well as offering crucial supplies such as naloxone kits.
With their van rendered unusable, local health officials are looking into other means to offer services in the meantime.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is on-going, and anyone with information should contact Fort St John RCMP at 250 787 8100.
