Earlier today, it was announced that the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations will be launching a new Centre of Excellence in First Nations Economic Development in order to advance the role of First Nations in B.C.’s economy and to further work towards both true as well as lasting reconciliation.
More than $1.2 million in funding will provided by the Province to the Assembly so that they can launch the centre.
The announcement saw multiple speakers take their turn to give their thoughts on the centre, including jobs minister Ravi Kahlon, who went deeper into how the center would benefit First Nations.
Other speakers such as the Assembly’s Regional Chief Terry Teegee and Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Murray Rankin, talked about how the centre would help further reconciliation progress and how relationships like the one between the Province and First Nations will provide a pathway for transformational change that benefits everyone.
The launch of the centre comes as part of the StrongerBC Economic plan, which looks to deal with climate change as well as create a low-carbon economy.
