Students, staff, and alumni from Coast Mountain College gathered last Friday to honour the retirement of renowned artist and instructor Stan Bevan.
Bevan, who is of Tahltan-Tlingit and Tsimshian Descent, has been credited with helping to revive Tlingit art and design.
In 2006, he played a key role in founding the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art at the college’s Terrace campus.
While he is retiring from his role as instructor and co-ordinator, he will still be involved with the program, joining his uncle Dempsey Bob as a senior advisor.
Last week’s ceremony also sought to celebrate the legacy of Dempsey Bob and Ken McNeil, alongside Bevan, as long-term instructors.
