In a recent news release, it was revealed that the Provincial Government of BC is looking to help communities with preparation for potential flooding and is ready to assist whenever necessary.
The preparations are likely to be much needed since even though extreme weather events such as the ones that took place last year in November are rare, flooding has still become a regular occurrence in BC.
Some of the ways the government is prepared to help includes having Emergency Management BC be on standby to deploy four million sandbags and sandbag machines to local governments to protect homes and public infrastructure, expand the use of Alert Ready to issue broadcast warnings for imminent flood threats and adding Interac e-Transfer as a payment option for Emergency Support Services.
Emergency Management BCÂ is also asking residents in areas affected by flooding to take personal flood precautions like protecting homes by moving equipment to higher ground, creating grab and go bags and staying clear of river shorelines.
