In honor of it currently being ShakeOut BC week, residents are being advised to practice evacuation routes and how to drop, cover and hold on in case of a tsunami or earthquake.
Tsunamis tend to come as the result of earthquakes and residents are asked to drop, cover and hold on during an earthquake and once the shaking is done, people who live tsunami hazard zones, namely on the coast, should leave the area immediately.
Tsunami zone residents are also being advised to practice their evacuation routes on foot or bike with family, friends or colleagues just in case and most people won’t have to go far to be safe from a tsunami.
People have also been asked to get prepared by creating a home emergency plan and building a home emergency kit with grab-and-go bags and supplies to cover at least three days.
Tomorrow at 10:20 in the morning, the Great British Columbia ShakeOut will commence at schools, workplaces and public places by showing everyone how to drop, cover and hold on.
