This year’s winner of a BC community forest award as well as the $10,000 grant that comes with it, has been awarded to the Wetzink’wa Community Forest.
The award in question is the Robin Hood Memorial Award and every year since 2016, it is given to the community forest best exemplifying the values of community leadership, providing local and social economic opportunity, innovation and a passion for community forestry.
The Wetzink’wa Community Forest won for reasons like their long-term vision for the forest resource, their creation of a strong wildfire risk-reduction program thanks to working closely with the Forest Enhancement Society of BC and the BC Wildfire Service and creating local employment opportunities while prioritizing First Nations employment.
The award was officially presented yesterday at the British Columbia Community Forest Association 20th Anniversary Banquet and annual general meeting.
