According to a recent study known as the Kootenay Connectivity Benefits Study, high-speed internet connectivity expansions in rural, remote and Indigenous communities provides positive impacts for both local and provincial economies in the short and long term.
BC Stats both conducted and released this study in order to find how these new internet services were impacting given areas.
The study determined that connectivity improvements will generate a local and provincial total of $281 million, 14 times more than the Province’s original investment.
Since the start of 2020, BC has invested $19.4 million in connectivity funding in the Kootenay area via the Connecting British Columbia Program, funding 24 projects to connect more than 10,000 households in the area.
