According to a recent press release, the First Nations Climate Initiative is going to be apart of the Canadian delegation travelling to Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt in order to present their new Climate Action Plan at COP27.
The design of the plan was made with the goal of achieving decarbonization and decolonization.
The main areas of the plan that will get the most attention at COP are the just transition to net-zero with equity for First Nations, the energy transition that lowers global GHG emissions and provides for economic reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples and Nature-based solutions being presented as globally-significant opportunities.
This plan was also made as part of a call to the BC and Federal Governments made by the Haisla, Nisga’a and Halfway River First Nations, asking them to deal with climate change in Canada and the rest of the world.
