Indigenous, municipal and Canadian Olympic Committee members gathered in Vancouver earlier today to say that were greatly disappointed with the BC government’s decision to not support an Indigenous-led bid to host the 2030 Olympics in BC.
Wilson Williams, who is an Elected Councillor and spokesperson for the Squamish Nation, said that the province’s choice to let the bid die out was disheartening .
He also mentioned that the province didn’t discuss the decision with the Indigenous leaders who came up with the proposal, but according to Williams, there is still time to have a conversation, which is reportedly all the organizers have really wanted.
The reason that the provincial government gave for choosing not to support the bid for the games was that they could not justify the expense of hosting the event.
