With the Province of BC celebrating Apprenticeship Recognition Month, they are encouraging provincial residents to learn of the benefits of a skilled trades career that offers high-quality, good-paying jobs as well as growth opportunities in numerous fields.
November has been set as Apprenticeship Recognition Month for the fourth year in a row in BC and throughout the month, the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training and the Industry Training Authority will be celebrating the contribution and value of apprentices, employer sponsors, youth program participants throughout the province in addition to raising awareness of the career benefits in the skilled trades.
At the moment, training in more than 70 trades programs is available at 15 public post-secondary schools in BC, along with employer and union trades training.
Around 27,000 apprenticeship and foundation training seats are funded by the ITA every year and they also work with more than 10,000 employer sponsors.
A lot more opportunities have been made available in the trades since BC passed the Skilled Trades BC Act this spring, which modernized the Crown agency responsible for trades training.
