In a recent ruling from a labour arbitrator, a Northern BC bus driver that was seen talking on her phone for a brief time while she was driving kids home from School was determined to not have been wrongfully dismissed last year.
This case took place in November of 2021 and the driver had been operating part time out of Chetwynd while also maintaining a solid record before the incident.
While it was said by the arbitrator that he believed the driver was not intentionally trying to harm anyone with her actions, he ruled against her due to her breaking a serious rule in place to avoid distracted driving as well as her not taking responsibility for her mistake.
The driver got caught after a student took a photo of her on the phone and later showed it to his parents, who then proceeded to inform the driver’s superiors.
The driver was then let go within the week for the rule violation.
