In a press release sent out earlier today, it was revealed that a memorandum of understanding was signed by the City of Prince Rupert, Prince Rupert Legacy Inc, Metlakatla, Lax Kw’alaams and Pattern Energy.
The reason for the signing of the memorandum is so that local renewable energy can be developed throughout the entire region.
The agreement will commit to seeking out opportunities for the Coast Ts’msyen and the City to reap potential economic benefits while explicitly recognizing their Aboriginal Rights and Title.
Meanwhile, Prince Rupert may potentially receive both taxation revenue and lease revenues if development moves forward on City lands.
Now the parties will work with a Working Group to look at the particulars of how much as well as the type of energy needed to supply a hydrogen development, opportunities for mutual benefit, and how the North Coast can create global green energy production and trade.
