Funding will be making it’s way to about 100 organizations in BC through the Province’s Tourism Events Program.
The main reason the funding is being given out is so that BC can build up it’s reputation as an events destination and increase it’s number of visitors.
Up to $250,000 can be given out in a grant and they need to be used for eligible activities that amplify an event’s provincial, national and international marketing reach.
Back in April of this year, it was announced that $4.8 million would be given by the Province to the program, which marked the program’s return after a two year COVID related absence.
The program’s purpose is to support many different tourism experiences such as arts, cultural or internationally recognized sporting competitions and to bolster awareness of events, attract additional overnight visitors and increase tourism benefits for communities.
During the pandemic, COVID-19 relief funding was provided through the BC Fairs, Festivals and Events program, which gave out nearly $30 million in support of 680 events throughout the Province.
