UPDATE (11/22/22 11:37 AM):
Prince Rupert residents are being asked to avoid the Ocean Centre Mall as RCMP continue investigate a fatal shooting from this morning.
Police have been on scene since roughly 8:30, when they were initially called to the 3rd Avenue West mall for reports of shots fired.
When they arrived on scene, police discovered the already deceased body of a 52 year-old woman, and a man suffering from critical injuries.
Officers quickly determined that it was not an active shooter situation, but an isolated incident between two individuals known to each other.
It is believed that the 44 year-old man shot the woman, before turning the gun on himself and attempting to take his own life.
He was transported to hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries as RCMP continue to investigate.
Witnesses, and anyone with footage of the area around the mall between 6:00 and 9:00 this morning, is asked to contact Prince Rupert RCMP at 250 624 2136.
Ocean Centre Mall will remain closed to the public until future notice.
