A humpback whale found decomposing on the coast of Haida Gwaii is believed to be the same carcass spotted floating near Prince Rupert last month.
It’s just one of five dead humpbacks found along BC’s coast over the past month and a half.
While the causes of the deaths are still being determined, marine researchers believe humans may have been involved in at least two of them.
Blunt-force trauma found on at least two of the whales secured for necropsies, a signs that they may have been hit by a boat, though it could have been after death.
Last week, the DFO issued a public health warning after a number of dogs became severely ill after consuming meat from a corpse on Haida Gwaii.
