Prince Rupert RCMP have finished collecting evidence at the Ocean Centre Mall after Monday’s fatal shooting, though the investigation continues.
Police are now confident that the 44 year-old male suspect entered the mall and shot a 52 year-old woman, before turning the gun on himself.
Despite the quick actions of first responders, the woman passed away on scene, while the man would later succumb to his wounds in hospital.
Family have now identified the woman as Patty Forman, a Child and Family Services worker, and the male suspect as Shawn Yeung, a Border Services Agent.
Premier David Eby lamented Forman’s passing last night, calling it a tragic violent act committed against someone who strove to serve local children and families.
Mayor Herb Pond also offered condolences, saying that in a town the size of Prince Rupert, every soul is impacted by such a traumatic event.
RCMP are continuing to investigate, and anyone with information should contact them at 250 624 2136.
