BC is introducing a number of new measures to help expand the number of internationally educated doctors allowed to practice in the province.
One such measure will see the province triple the number of seats in their Practice Ready Assessment program from 32 to 96 by March of 2024.
That program allows international medical grads to work as associate physicians, and removes barriers preventing US doctors from working in BC.
International grads not eligible for licensing in BC may be eligible for a new associate physician class through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
That program will allow them to provide care under the supervision of a physician within an accute care setting.
In addition, the province is working on a new accreditation process which can be started prior to arrival, and bylaw changes to allow more doctors to practice in more settings.
