Nearly 49,000 teachers across all 60 School Districts are covered under a newly ratified collective bargaining agreement with the province.
Contract negotiations between the BC Teachers Federation and Public School Employers’ Association initially began back in March.
Now, after more than 40 meetings between the two since, they have finally come to terms on a 3 year deal.
That deal will see incremental wage increases of 3.24 percent in the first year, 5.5 percent in the second, and 2 percent in the final year.
Each year also features additional increases based on wage grid categories and cost of living increases.
In addition, the contract includes benefits such as: recognition of teaching experience at First Nations’ schools, extra preparation time, better access to support services, and more.
Roughly 94 percent of BCTF members who cast a ballot in the vote were in favour of ratifying the agreement.
