A newly formed coalition of environmental groups joined Premier David Eby at the Government House yesterday as he swore in his new cabinet.
Known as Frack Free BC, the group is calling on the new Premier to end the expansion of fossil-fuel infrastructure and all fracking activities.
In an effort to sway Eby and raise awareness, the group set up fracking rigs and anti-fracking signs on the House lawn during the ceremony.
In October, prior to becoming Premier, Eby said that BC can’t continue to expand fossil fuel infrastructure if they plan to hit their climate goals.
Now, Frack Free is calling for Eby to stop issuing fracking permits, and to set a date for when the industry will be phased out.
They say they have particular concern over 5 LNG proposals on the west coast, including the Cedar and Kitimat LNG projects.
