Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach has penned a letter to his hometown after a fire broke out at a homeless encampment earlier this week.
That fire broke out in a tent encampment in Smithers, across from Town Hall on Monday, and sent one to hospital with serious burns.
In response, Bachrach called the current homeless situation in the community dangerous, unsustainable, and unjust.
He says that, despite engagement with all levels of government on a solution, more must still be done to address the issue.
Provincial support has been obtained to open a short-term shelter in Smithers, but Bachrach says they have yet to find an appropriate available location.
Bachrach is reaching out to anyone in the community willing to offer the space for the short-term shelter, and is asking any who can to reach out to his office.
You can reach his Smithers office at 250 877 4140.
