After recent public backlash for not doing so, the province will begin reporting the number of children who pass away from the flu weekly.
According to Provincial Health Officer Dr Bonnie Henry, 6 influenza-associated deaths among children have been reported so far this respiratory season.
Of those, one was under the age of 5, three were between 5 and 9 years old, and two were between 15 and 19.
Dr Henry says that, while flu-related deaths in previously healthy children remain rare, this season has seen an early and intense surge in cases.
In an effort to get children vaccinated before the holidays, the province is offering additional walk-in immunizations province-wide this weekend.
In Terrace, vaccinations are available at the Health Unit at 3412 Kalum Street from 3:00 to 7:00 in the evening today, and from 8:30 to 12:30 in the afternoon tomorrow.
