Eligible renters in Canada can now apply for a new on-time $500 rebate through the Canada Housing Benefit program.
Families with an adjusted income below $35,000, or individuals earning less than $20,000 who spend at least 30 percent of their income on rent can apply for the top-up.
That means nearly 2 million Canadians will benefit from the payment, with the average rent in the country climbing to nearly $2,000 per month in November.
Initially announced in September, the top-up is the direct result of a Supply and Confidence Agreement signed between the Liberals and NDP in March.
You can apply through your Canada Revenue Service Agency account.
