$2.1 million in fresh provincial funding will help to increase the capacity of child care, and mental health support services in the North.
Split between 8 projects, the funding comes from the Northern Healthy Communities Fund, administered by the Northern Development Initiative Trust.
$500,000 will go towards the construction of a permanent Foundry Centre in Terrace, to provide mental health supports, primary care, and social services for youth.
A further $420,000 will help fund renovations at the future site of the Ksan Society’s Turning Points Shelter on Tetrault Street.
A project by the Tamitik Status of Women Association to bring 40 units of transition housing, and 60 child care spaces, to Kitimat will receive$500,000.
$45,000 will allow the Dze L’Kant Friendship Centre Society to host up to 25 First Aid Certificate workshops in Smithers, as well.
