Two BC organizations will be able to better address and respond to human rights complaints, thanks to fresh provincial funding.
A $4.5 million funding boost for the BC Human Rights Tribunal and Community Legal Assistance Society will help improve access to justice.
Responsible for mediating and adjudicating all human rights complaints in BC, the Tribunal has seen their caseload more than double since 2019.
Recent years have also seen a spike in calls for the CLAS, who provide free legal services to disadvantaged people.
Both of those jumps are due largely to an increase in complaints and requests for advice related to pandemic-era restrictions and mandates.
