Effective Jan. 5, PharmaCare has expanded coverage on 4 medications.
Two medications Forxiga and apixaban will be upgraded from limited to regular coverage.
At the same time, Ozempic and Jardiance will have their limited coverage criteria expanded.
Forxiga, Ozempic, and Jardiance are all approved by Health Canada to help treat Type 2 diabetes, while Forxiga can also treat heart failure and chronic kidney disease.
Under regular coverage, 5,000 more patients will be able to access Forxiga in the first year, which is an increase of 3,000.
Apixaban, a generic blood thinner, already benefits 45,000 patients in BC under limited coverage, and is expected to benefit 24,000 more under regular coverage.
The coverage change of these medications mean more British Columbians who need them, will be able to recieve them.
