Automatic compensation for delayed flights is just one of a number of changes to air passenger protections proposed by Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach today.
His calls come after hundreds of families across the country were stranded in airports over the holidays after flight cancellations.
Those issues only add to the Canadian Transportation Agency’s backlog of passenger complaints, which is now over 33,000.
Some customers are needing to wait 18 months or more to even have their complaints heard, and face numerous loopholes to be compensated once they are.
Bachrach says this is a sign that the Liberal Government’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations are deeply flawed, and in need of an overhaul.
He says passengers should not need to face the additional stress of fighting for compensation, on top of that caused by the initial cancellations.
In addition to automatic compensation for flight disruptions, Bachrach is calling for the elimination of loopholes which allow airlines to avoid reimbursing passengers, and tougher enforcement.
