A new provincial permitting strategy aims to streamline the approval process for developers looking to build housing.
Currently, authorization can require several provincial permit applications to multiple ministries, each with their own process.
In order to speed up approvals to get more homes built, the province is eliminating the need for multiple applications through a new, coordinated process.
A cross-ministry Housing Action Task Force will handle permitting decisions while the new single-application process is being developed.
Led by the Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship, the Task Force will be supported by 42 newly created full-time positions.
Initial priority will be given to applications for Indigenous-led projects and multi-family developments, and BC Housing applications.
