A new $90 million fund has been established by the province with the goal of creating thousands of new jobs for forestry workers.
That comes in the wake of last week’s announcement that Canfor would be permanently shutting down pulp operations in Prince George.
Through the new BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund, the province aims to diversify local economies and support clean, inclusive growth.
A 3-year endeavour, the fund will support the creation of value-added products such as mass timber, biomass, plastic-alternatives, and more.
Funding can be used to expand, repurpose or renovate existing facilities, build new ones, upgrade equipment, or for business and technical planning.
Priority will be given to established organizations looking to launch shovel-ready projects which provide local, good-paying, jobs.
One stream will provide up to $50,000 for projects in the planning phase, while another provides up to $10 million for investment-ready projects.
