Six more Indigenous-led companies have signed on to help construct a portion of the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
Michels Canada, the prime contractor for Section 6 of the pipeline, has formalized agreements with the economic development arms of 6 elected First Nations along the route.
Those include corporations from: the Wet’suwet’en, Witset, Stellat’en, Skin Tyee, Nee Tahi Buhn, and Ts’il Kaz Koh First Nations.
Section 6 runs from southeast of Burns Lake to south of Houston, where pipeline installation is roughly 52 percent complete.
Only the contentious Section 7, which runs from south of Houston to west of Morice Lake, is further from completion with 32 percent installed.
Last year, the Witset, Wet’suwet’en, and Skin Tyee First Nations also inked agreements to help construct that stretch.
Those agreements come as CGL falls under more fire from the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs for alleged failures to control sediment in the Clore River.
