More than 800 residents of Prince Rupert and Port Edward are without power following last night’s heavy snowfall.
Wet snow and heavy winds downed a number of trees in the area, in turn taking out a series of powerlines.
BC Hydro says crews are on route to most of the outages, though they have made no estimates on when power will be restored.
Meanwhile, the City of Prince Rupert is asking drivers to proceed with caution and give road and engineering crews space to work.
They say City staff are out in full force working on snow removal, but that the recent breakdowns and downed powerlines are making it difficult.
As a result of the messy road conditions, School District 52 has also decided to close all schools in Prince Rupert and Port Edward for the day.
