New provincial funding aims to keep forestry workers working and local mills running, while also mitigating wildfire risks and emissions.
$50 million is being provided for the Forest Enhancement Society of BC to expand funding for projects which increase fibre supply and use.
That will help get more fire-damaged wood and logging waste to the mills that need them, and provide more work for those hauling fibre.
According to the province, the extra funding will allow contractors to access low-value or residual fibre that would otherwise be too costly or remote.
It’s just the most recent in a series of new provincial measures looking to boost employment in the forestry sector, following a number of layoffs and curtailments.
