BC Hydro is planning to issue an Expression of Interest, to help gauge the need for electrical transmission infrastructure on the Northcoast.
With the region experiencing significant industrial growth in recent years, the demand for clean energy has significantly increased.
In order to increase capacity in the area, BC Hydro is already constructing a series of capacitors between Prince George and Terrace.
Once completed, that project will increase transmission capacity in the region by 60 percent, compared to current levels.
But, that project will only be enough to meet short-term demand, and doesn’t address additional loads as industry expands.
Through the EOI, the Corporation hopes to gain a better understanding of where demand is highest, and where infrastructure is most needed.
While the EOI is not yet open, you can find more information and updates at this link.
