An additional call for housing providers has been issued by the City of Prince Rupert as they look to move ahead with their Interim Housing Strategy.
In the Fall, the City put out an initial Expression of Interest for housing developers to establish a short-list of interested operators.
Since then, the City has identified two possible partners, and have been working alongside them to develop a proposal for funding from the Federal Rapid Housing Initiative.
But the future of both of those projects would be dependent on receiving full funding from the grant.
Despite that, the City has decided to issue a second Expression of Interest, in order to capitalize on available funding opportunities.
Selected proposals would also be dependent on grant funding, and would need to operate the units for at least 40 years.
Developments are being considered for lots in the downtown core, with a priority on supporting vulnerable populations.
Prince Rupert’s Housing Needs Assessment projected a need for 4,800 new homes by 2030.
