One woman has passed away after her vehicle left the road and ended up in the Skeena River on Tuesday.
At around 10:00 in the morning, RCMP were called to a section of Highway 16 near the Khyex River for reports of the incident.
Callers reported seeing a vehicle in the river, along with tracks leading away from the Highway.
Upon arrival, a pair of witnesses helped police pull the vehicle from the river and extract the sole occupant, a 33 year-old woman.
They helped to perform life-saving techniques on the woman until paramedics could arrive on-scene and transport her to hospital, where she would eventually succumb to her injuries.
An investigation revealed nothing suspicious, and RCMP believe the cause of the incident to be poor weather and road conditions at the time.
