Work to replace the Woodworth Dam in Prince Rupert has now wrapped up, allowing the City to switch back to their primary water supply.
Construction of the new dam began in 2020 with the intent of creating a stable water supply for the community for the next 50 to 100 years.
Crews completed the dam structure last October, following numerous delays prompted by the pandemic, supply chain issues, and landslides.
But, contractors then experienced further delays in obtaining the materials needed to reconnect the dam with the Woodworth Lake supply.
With the work now completed, the City has switched back to their primary supply, though residents may not notice a difference in quality quite yet.
According to the City, an increase in the Lake’s height has introduced new sediment to the Lake.
As a result, residents may still notice discolouration in their water until the weather calms in the summer and the reservoir settles.
A new water treatment facility is the next step of the City’s water infrastructure replacement efforts, which is currently in the engineering phase.
