A total of $1 billion in one-time provincial grant funding is being made available to all of BC’s 188 municipalities and regional districts.
Through the Growing Communities Fund, the province aims to help communities expand and improve local infrastructure.
Each community will be able to tap into the flexible new fund to support their unique needs and prepare for future growth.
Funding can be accessed for anything from improving roads, to building water distribution infrastructure, to recreation and much more.
But the province is stressing that it can also be used to add amenities to support housing construction, to meet the needs of growing populations.
Funding for the program comes from the province’s second quarter surplus, and will be distributed to local governments by the end of next month.
