A pedestrian is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by an impaired driver in Prince Rupert over the weekend.
RCMP were called out to McBride Street at around 1:30 Saturday morning for reports of the collision.
A red Toyota Tacoma had reportedly struck a 33 year-old pedestrian near the intersection with 5th Avenue East, before fleeing the scene.
EHS also attended to assist the victim, who would later be air-lifted to hospital in Vancouver with a number of serious injuries.
Witnesses were able to help identify both the vehicle and the driver, who police tracked down not long after.
Suspecting the man to be impaired, officers conducted a breath test which saw him blow nearly three times the legal limit.
He was arrested and held in custody, and police had the intersection closed down into the evening as they investigated.
Anyone with information or surveillance footage which may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Prince Rupert RCMP at 250 624 2136.
