Major construction activities are clear to get underway at the Blackwater Gold Mine, after receiving provincial approval today.
Project operator Artemis Gold has been granted their BC Mines Act Permit, the final piece of approval to begin construction activities.
Located roughly 130 kms southwest of Burns Lake, the project straddles the territory of the Lhoosk’uz Dene Nation and Ulkatcho First Nation.
Both Nations were involved in the approval process, along with the Carrier Sekani and Nazko First Nations.
Once completed, the mine is expected to produce 321,000 ounces of gold annually in the first 5 years of its 22 year lifespan.
Despite the production, the mine is expected to be one of the lowest green-house gas emitting open pit mining operations in the world.
