An independent investigation has been launched to look into historic allegations of abuse against Indigenous girls by the Prince George RCMP.
According to the report, the RCMP continually failed to investigate internal reports of sexual abuse and harassment against Indigenous girls.
Former Staff Sergeant Garry Kerr originally brought the allegations to RCMP leadership in 2011, but his complaints went ignored.
In 2006, fellow ex-officer Lisa Mackenzie came to Kerr after discovering video evidence of officers assaulting Indigenous girls in her basement.
But the tapes were stolen in a break-in not long after she reported her discovery to RCMP brass.
Now, BC has selected the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations.
They will be looking into reports of RCMP in Prince George sexually assaulting and harassing Indigenous women between 1992 and 2004.
