In an effort to stop the demolition of the old Seven Sister’s Mental Health facility, the Skeena Valley Seniors Society will be rallying next month.
Built in 2005, the society claims that demolishing the facility would be a waste of tax dollars and that the building could be repurposed to provide short-term care or respite beds.
With it’s replacement already under construction, the old facility is planned to be demolished in July and the site will be used for the new Mills Memorial hospital build.
Expected to be complete by the end of the year, the new building is planned to provide 25 beds, which is an increase from the current 20, and new amenities like a multi-sensory room.
In total, the Mills rebuild has recently hit 50% completion and is expected to start taking patients in early 2025.
The rally will be taking place at the old Seven Sisters building on April 1 at 1 pm.
