A commercial fisherman is facing nearly $50,000 in fines after being caught fishing illegally near Prince Rupert.
Adrian Slavko Kern has now pleaded guilty to a pair of Fisheries Act violations levied against him by the DFO last October.
Those charges stem from September of 2018, when officers caught Kern setting gear in the Chatham Sound area, while it was closed for harvest.
As a result, he has been ordered to pay fines of $25,000 for illegally setting fishing gear, and $24,706 for illegally selling fish.
In addition to the fines, Kern will be banned from applying for a new license, and from fishing under any commercial license for 8 months.
