Welcome to Journeys with Kelly Kenny. Tonights feature is Margaret Grenier. Margaret is the Festival Executive of the Coastal Dance festival held in New Westminster, BC, and the Artistic Director Dancers of Damelahamid. Margaret is the daughter of the late Chief Kenneth Harris and Margaret Harris. Both Margarets parents were instrumental in instilling the love for the art of dance and culture. Dancers of Damelahamid is an indigenous dance company founded upon over five decades of extensive work of song and dance revitalization. Margaret grew up in Prince Rupert, and she was immersed from a young age in the practice of song and dance that has passed down for countless generations. In Margarets words, It was through this experience that I entered into a relationship with my ancestral memories. Margaret is sharing information about the 16th Annual Coastal Dance Festival, honouring indigenous stories, song, and dance from Northwest Coast, Canada and around the world.
