Two waste management projects in the Northwest are splitting $8 million in newly announced provincial funding.
$5 million of that will go to the City of Terrace to help fund on-going remediation work at the recently closed Terrace Landfill.
Those funds will be used on treatment upgrades to manage leachate, solid waste, and gases to lessen the risk of contaminated water leaking into the environment.
Terrace Mayor Sean Bujtas says the project had been the City’s top priority.
With the new funding, the City will be able to redirect another recently announced $4.6 million provincial grant toward other infrastructure needs.
Another $3 million will help the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine expand the Forceman Ridge Waste Management Facility.
That will help increase capacity at the facility, after a series of large development projects caused it to fill faster than expected.
