Deputy Commissioner of Federal Policing Michael Duheme will take over as interim Commissioner of the RCMP beginning tomorrow.
Lucki took over as the force’s 24th Commissioner in 2018, vowing to address systemic sexism and anti-Indigenous racism among the RCMP.
But, she has since drawn criticism from First Nations for continually defending militarized enforcements of injunctions at blockades set up by land defenders.
Duheme will serve as interim Commissioner while the search for a permanent replacement is underway.
He brings more than 34 years of experience with the RCMP, including as head of the Federal policing program, and as the first Director of the Parliamentary Protective Service.
